Coughing, runny nose and totally exhausted – allergy or cold symptoms?
Coughing, frequent sneezing, and irritated eyes are not necessarily symptoms of a cold. They can also be due to an allergy. Because almost one in three people in Germany suffer from an allergy.
What can cause an allergy?
Allergic immune reactions can be caused, for example, by pollen, mould, pet dander, house dust mites, or even foods. Would you like to find out exactly what you are allergic to?
an Allergy Test in our ENT Specialist Practicesolves the mystery.
Your Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist in Berlin offers two special methods to test allergies:
Skin Prick Test
Allergenic substances are applied to marked skin areas, where the skin is then pricked. After a brief waiting period, the reaction is observed
Laboratory Blood Test (RAST)
A blood sample taken in the practice is tested in the laboratory for so-called IgE antibodies, which react to allergenic substances. This can determine the strength of the respective allergy. Since this test is not only much more accurate but also more complex, it is usually carried out as a follow-up to the prick test.
Sometimes patients wonder if it isn’t enough to buy a remedy against allergies (antihistamines) in the pharmacy and ask us if it is really necessary to have such a thorough examination. We say: Yes, the importance of a thorough examination should not be underestimated!
If only acute symptoms are treated, for example with hay fever, inflammatory processes can spread to surrounding organs and become chronic. As a result, secondary diseases such as sinusitis and allergic asthma can develop.
