Snoring
Is it only annoying or could it compromise my health?

How will I know if my snoring is simply annoying for my partner and myself, or if it is a serious health risk? Why don’t I ever feel well-rested?

Together we identify the problem and find the perfect therapy or treatment.

Calm, relaxed sleep is a must for a healthy life that we look forward to every morning.

Dr. Kuhnke,Why do we snore?

Snoring is a common phenomenon. It not only affects men and women, but also children. Did you know that half of all middle-aged people snore?

We snore when our respiratory muscles relax during sleep. The upper respiratory tract can thereby constrict. The narrowed passageways cause a vibration in the throat and result in a snoring sound. This happens more often if we sleep on our back.

What happens if I snore?

Snoring can be summed up in daytime tiredness, decreased performance, feeling out of sorts. And it doesn’t only affect the person snoring, but their stressed partners as well.

What causes snoring?

Reasons for common snoring (without interrupted breathing) can be increased stress, certain medications, obesity, wrong diet, or simply an anatomically caused narrow nasal passage.

Is snoring an illness?

Although common snoring decreases our quality of life, negatively influences our job performance and also our relationship, when it comes to interrupted breathing during sleep we call it is a common illness that we call SLEEP APNOEA. It can lead to high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, heart attack, depression or impotence.

In any case, in order to eliminate the symptoms, a professional diagnosis of the cause by your ear, nose and throat specialist in Berlin is a must.

When women snore

During menopause or pregnancy, women often snore as a result of hormonal changes. In such cases, we suggest involving an endocrinologist/gynaecologist. With your consent, we would share our findings about the cause analysis with them and decide treatment options.

But snoring also occurs in young women. A 2018 study in England shows that one in every three women between the ages of 25 and 35 snores up to 3x per week.

Basic tips such as sleeping on your side, good ventilation in the bedroom, not going to bed too late and no heavy food or alcohol in the evening unfortunately do not always help.

When men snore

Since men usually snore louder than women, even the snorer rarely finds deep and restful sleep when sleeping in a room alone. The consequences of sleep deficit should not be overlooked.

When children snore

If your child has difficulty breathing through the nose – whatever the cause – it can have a negative influence on their development and also rob you of a good night’s sleep.

Treatment options

We will analyse your symptoms with the help of a small portable diagnostic device (polygraph), which you use overnight.

In some cases, an anti-snoring mouthpiece will do the trick. We have this fitted for you in cooperation with a specialized dentist.

But sometimes it may even be necessary to perform minor outpatient laser surgery. We are specialists in this field. We have been successfully removing obstructions in the nose or throat for almost 20 years. The procedure is minimally invasive and often quickly helps patients to find restful sleep. (also refer to Nasal Breathing)
